Back Spasms.......AARRRGGGHHHH!

On saturday I set out to do my last hard run until my scheduled race a week later. I had sent in the registration on friday with my check. My plan for saturday was to run 7K easy, and finish up with 3K hard, at a pace I hoped would approach the race pace I planned to run next saturday. I never got that far. About a half hour in, I must have either landed funny, or God knows what, but all of a sudden I started having back spasms on my left side. Now what's weird is that I had been struggling with right side muscle tightness from some exercises I had been trying at the gym. Anyway, I finished the 10K, but never added any intensity to the run. I came home, iced, took a hot shower, iced again, put a layer of penetrex on the site, and ate one of suzi's old celebrex capsules. Was sore all evening and woke up sore this morning. Spent a couple hours on the floor working on strengthening and stretching, and then iced again. It began raining at around 3 PM, so I went out and ran a very easy 8K, mostly on roads, as all my regular trails were muddy and slippery. Now the usual time it takes to recover from these spasms can run anywhere from a week to three months. You just never know at the beginning weather it will stabilize and improve, and just nag along for a long while. I was scheduling an easy week anyway after having run 132K over the past three weeks, but it will now get easier. Will run easy on tuesday and thursday, and go to the race on saturday. If my back is any worse, it will be a very slow race. Got to do some tasks in Las Cruces anyway, so I will at least show up and support those high school cross country kids.... Well, those T-tards did it again on friday.....pushed two bills that will die in the senate when they return in a month or so for a two week work period before they disappear again thru the mid term elections.....one bill is a small allocation that won't dent the border issue, and the other to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals policy, making more than 550,000 undocumented young people vulnerable to deportation. Again, Jesus was a dark skinned illegal immigrant brought to egypt to escape being murdered bye Herod.......Ahhhh, old white people.....

I went and played golf this weekend. Hadn't played in probably 6 or 8 years. You know you're getting old when you're afraid to swing the club hard for fear you'll wrench your back. I had to laugh at myself having been able to do every sport relatively well not too long ago...to now afraid something as casual as golf might make me sore/injured.

It keeps getting worse....soon you can't throw a ball, squat down and play with a toddler, can't run with a dog, pretty soon you can hurt yourself just wiping yourself....
