Well, no one showed up for this race. This is the 2nd race thru this club where no one showed up, no call to cancel, etc. Guess that is the last time I will bother with them. So, since i was all ready to run, i chose to go to my favorite run spot in Las Cruces. It is only a few miles from where the race was supposed to be. I had brought my camera to take a picture of Foghorn, but instead, i took it with me on the run. The run starts where a road ends by a golf course, and climbs a bitch of a mountain up to a telescope observatory owned by the school. It is called the Apache observatory. The 3 pictures are of my old van (more on that later) at the start looking to the mountain, The observatory, and a view from the observatory down to the car. if you enlarge and look closely at the picture from the top, you will see a green space that represents the end of the last hole on the course. the van is just to the left. anyway, it took me 36 minutes up, and 30 back. i figure about 6 miles total. on the way back, i met 8 NMSU cross country runners going up (they looked at me like what the hell is this geezer doing up here!), and when i got down to the flatter sections, 10 runners from the girls team was heading up with their coach. he was babbling to them and they already were looking pretty rough. it was in the high 80's or so by then.
After the race, i went to Barnes and Knobles and bought a few paperbacks and some coffee and a sandwich. Left there and went to the VW dealer who had one 2010 Jetti TDI (turbodeisel). Drove it and was amazed at the ride, handling, how damn quite it was, and all the electronic foo foo crap. Now deb and i have to eat ramen noodles until next march when we both get our annual raises!! I pick it up wednesday after the glass is tinted and it is detailed. will take a picture and put it on the site!!
