Retarded: Slow or limited in intellectual or emotional development or academic progress. Somehow we have turned this into another politically incorrect word to use. Developmentally disabled, intellectually deficient, imbecile, moron, idiot? Is it really the word or in fact the mockery and connotation for which it has been used. Treating someone who is different poorly is the issue, not necessarily the words used.
Now the Tea Party people I have seen in the past 6 months have shown a variety of ways of expressing their displeasure with the government. My problem with what I have seen, is that it is not focused on SOLUTIONS to the issues that face us today. Besides spelling signs poorly and saying things like "I want my country back" (aka a white paternally dominated society), they don't have any solutions to any of our most important issues. Corporations are outsourcing our jobs and offshoring their tax obligations. How do we get good jobs back? How do we cover all American citizens with good affordable health coverage. How do we stop corporate control over all of our federal elected officials. What about global warming and the need for alternative fuel sources to reduce our dependence on foreign countries who want to kill us? Why can't we stop our two wars? Why have we lost control of our food sources to Corporations with the result of an obesity epidemic and unsafe foods. Retirement is being destroyed for the middle class, and the middle class is disappearing in the midst of one of the greatest wealth transfers to the rich in any generation in Americas recent history. After watching Sarah Palin espouse nothing but empty platitudes at the Tea Party convention, it seems that if they really want to create a 3rd party in America, they need to start to come up with some viable solutions to present to the American people.
