Broken Greybeard!
Every new year, I grow out a goatee for a month or so just to see how grey it is. It is pretty much all white these days. This is really just an aside to the real purpose of this post.
Somehow I have hurt myself pretty well. Now in almost 37 years of running, I have had a variety of injuries, but spinal column aside, most of the worst injuries have been injuries I did in other ways that running just exacerbated. I think I have done this again. Probably when I was doing a few days of single leg presses. I somehow hurt the outside ligament on the back of my leg above and below the knee. I took a full week off, and ran an easy 4 miler yesterday. It hurt and tightened up again today, and I tried to run again to no avail. Got about two miles out and had to walk back. Will take another week off, and limit myself to 3 sessions of 20 minute exercycle and weights at the gym next week. IF (notice it is big) I can then get over it by months end and miss no more than three weeks, It will take at least 12 to 16 weeks to get back to where I was before. That would give me a few races around memorial day, and the senior games if I choose to try and cancel my DNF from last year. Don't know how many more of these returns I have in me. Must have done this at least 50 times in those 37 years....
