No One Romanticizes Surrender!

No Mas...We never applaud that. The heroes are those that rise from the ashes and are able to reach new heights. Overcoming cancer and injury. The great comebacks. Lance (before that nasty drug stuff), Adrienne Peterson returning to 2000 yards of rushing after complete knee reconstruction, Lukas Verzbikas returning to the triathlon after his horrid bike accident, etc. etc etc. They don't romanticize those moments when someone just says.....no more, I just can't do it anymore. Now, I may or may not be there, but I sure can feel it breathing down my neck.
In the last 13 months, I have only had two six week periods where I was able to run without pain. Over the past 6 weeks, my feet have been a buzz from some lumbar disk irritation, and all my exercises and trying to go easy on the running have not resulted in any improvement. So, I will need to stop for at least a few weeks and see if it heals before some damn doctors come along and take my tax refund for 2013 like they did in 2012. So another break for another indeterminable period and hopefully, another attempt to start again. The goal is not particularly high....just 25 miles a week of healthy pain free running over 4 or 5 days, but it has remained elusive over these last 13 months.
So I will keep the faith (a belief without evidence) for a bit longer, and try not to succumb to "no mas"....
